The other day I was very pleased to receive an email from Russia. (Now, that’s not something you’ll hear many people say very often). Seriously though, instead of the usual spam originating from eastern Europe, this was a very nice email from a man named Oleg Yazykov. It just so happens that Oleg is an artist – in his own words – “I practise art as a fan, but not professional” Having spent time working with orphans in Oleg’s country, (and counting Kandinsky as one of my favourite artists of all time) I was intrigued and headed straight over to his website.
I’m glad that I did. Patchy translations aside, I found his work a delight. It has to be said that I am not normally likely to spend money on other artist’s original paintings. I would make an exception in the case of one particular piece on Oleg’s site which I absolutely adore. I have reproduced it here for your enjoyment – the painting is called Mistake of Arahna”
My partner insists that I also mention the piece entitled “Sails of Sunset, or Cardiogram confirms…” which he cites as his personal favourite.
If you have the chance, do pop over to Oleg’s place on the web and let him know we sent you. He is trying to collect signatures in his guestbook from artists all around the world. His email was so nice that I think we should help him out.
